“The abortion period should be extended to 18 weeks.” With this clear statement, Flemish Minister of Welfare Caroline Gennez (Vooruit) once again sharpened the debate on abortion in the Flemish Parliament on Wednesday. Although Flanders is not competent for abortion legislation, Gennez openly advocated an extension of the legal period. This immediately led to criticism from coalition partners CD&V and N-VA.
