After Twitter criticism: Elon Musk insults Trent Reznor as “crybaby”

Apparently he can’t deal with criticism, but he does hand it out: billionaire and Twitter owner Elon Musk has publicly responded to Trent Reznor’s statements about him and Twitter.

After Musk started a poll on Twitter as to whether Donald Trump’s account should be reactivated after it was blocked for inciting violence in the wake of the storming of the Capitol and the majority of participants voted “yes”, Musk actually welcomed Trump under cover of freedom of expression back to the short message service. Incidentally, also Kanye West, who was previously banned for anti-Semitic statements.

Jack White sharply criticized this and described Musk’s action as an “official asshole move”. Trent Reznor publicly announced on Sunday that he was leaving Twitter. It’s an embarrassment: “We don’t need the arrogance of billionaires who think they can just walk in and solve all the problems. Even before Musk took over Twitter, the musician and producer was considering deactivating his account. “Even without Musk, Twitter has become an increasingly toxic environment. I need to get out of there for my mental health. It doesn’t feel good to be there anymore.”

Actually had Reznor deactivated his account afterwards. He was followed by 1.6 million users there, although Reznor rarely actively used Twitter anyway.

Nevertheless, Elon Musk insisted on reacting to this criticism in much the same way as what he accuses Reznor of. One user tweeted Monday, “48 hours ago Elon Musk unlocked President Trump’s Twitter account and the world is still not over.” Musk, who was tagged in the tweet, replied, “And it turned out that Trent ‘Nine Inch Nails’ Reznor is a crybaby”. The English term crybaby would be colloquially translated into German as a crybaby.

In response to criticism that he plans to charge $8 for the future blue tick on Twitter, which verifies official accounts of public figures and entities, Musk tweeted that he will likely use different colors for individuals than for organizations.
