After tropical Friday, a sweltering Saturday with a chance of smog

The 30 degrees passed at various measuring stations in Brabant on Friday. In Woensdrecht it was 30.6 degrees, in Eindhoven 30.4 and in Gilze and Rijen 30.1. Volkel lagged slightly behind with 29.7 degrees. RIVM warns of poor air quality on Saturday due to smog.

Even higher temperatures are expected for Saturday. The maximums can approach 35 degrees. On Sunday, thunderstorms will put an end to tropical temperatures.

RIVM advises people who are sensitive to smog to stay indoors on Saturday and to limit heavy physical exertion. This advice applies especially in the afternoon and early evening, when the air is most polluted.

Smog from ozone can lead to an increase in respiratory symptoms, such as coughing and shortness of breath, aggravation of asthma symptoms and a decrease in lung function. It can also irritate the eyes, nose and throat. People with respiratory diseases, children and the elderly are relatively often sensitive to smog. RIVM does not expect any more smog after Saturday.
