Rolder Boys qualified for the next round of the Northern District Cup by beating arch rival Annen 2-0

The regional derby between Rolder Boys and Annen is a guarantee for excitement and sensation. The mutual rivalry between these teams is unequivocally expressed before, during and after the often heroic battles. There is always fierce fighting during mutual duels. Only profit counts. The winning team can then walk proudly for at least six months. The losing team has been licking its wounds for six months, gritting its teeth.

Emotions often run high

The forecasts are made in advance by the supporters at the hairdresser, supermarket and on the street. Afterwards, emotions often run high. Once in the distant past, both linesmen met each other in a catering facility during the Rolder Markt. After some back and forth talking, the conversation degenerated into an ordinary brawl. Those times seem to be a thing of the past. Off the field, the players generally get along well with each other.

Both trainers Rick Slor of Rolder Boys and Jouke Jan Meertens of Annen show themselves combative in advance. Slor says that his team certainly does not have to step up their game. “They have to do that every week in the competition anyway,” says Slor. “We are of course looking forward to this match. It’s just a shame that it had to take place on a soaking wet Thursday evening.”

Meertens is also looking forward to the match with excitement. “These are always nice games,” says Meertens. “We would of course like to win against Rolder Boys, but we also want to progress one round. We have already disabled Gieten. Now Rolder Boys.”

Excellent off the starting blocks

Rolder Boys, ranked much higher in the competition than Annen in 2I of Sunday football, is off to an excellent start. Top scorer Siemen Krikke of Rolder Boys, who has already scored eight in the competition, almost maneuvers Annen into a losing situation halfway through the first half with two nice goals in quick succession: 2-0.

It won’t be the lively battle everyone had hoped for. Rolder Boys eventually pulled off the 2-0 win effortlessly. “We didn’t get into any problems after the 2-0,” Slor said happily afterwards. “We gave little away.” Meertens is brief in his reflection. “We didn’t put up a fight today,” says Meertens. “Rolder Boys deservedly won and it was not an old-fashioned regional derby.”

After the elimination in the cup tournament, it is little consolation for Annen that she will cross swords with Rolder Boys again in January. This time for the competition.
