Foregoes Fener salary

Goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic is back at the club where he developed into a Croatian national goalkeeper and runner-up. GNK Dinamo Zagreb has signed the 31-year-old on loan from Fenerbahce until the end of the season. The goalkeeper is hoping for playing time there so that he doesn’t miss out on getting on the train for the 2026 World Cup. His loan contract with Spanish first division club FC Girona had previously been terminated.

Livakovic moved to Catalonia at the beginning of September when Fenerbahce, where he had previously been a regular goalkeeper for two years, signed Ederson (32). In Girona, however, the 71-time international had to sit on the bench behind regular Paulo Gazzaniga (34) and was not even between the posts. Since Marc-André ter Stegen (33) was also loaned out from FC Barcelona in order to gain match practice for the World Cup participation with Germany, Livakovic’s departure was only a matter of time.

He is under contract with Fenerbahce until 2028, but according to the Croatian sports newspaper “Sportske Novosti” an attempt will be made to break it up for a permanent transfer in the summer. The Croatian record champion is therefore transferring a rental fee of 300,000 euros to Turkey. Livakovic has agreed to waive his salary, which would have been 1.5 million euros net for half the year in Istanbul. The keeper only plays for bonuses that are linked to success in the championship and Europa League. Dinamo will play against KRC Genk in the second round and could then face SC Freiburg if they are successful.

Livakovic wants eighth championship with Dinamo Zagreb

For Dinamo he guarded the goal 293 times between 2016 and 2023 and kept a clean sheet 138 times. Livakovic is a seven-time champion, two-time cup and three-time Super Cup winner with the capital club. The eighth title will be added this year. After the runner-up in 2025, which is now unusual for the club, Dinamo is currently at the top of the table and is four points ahead of arch-rival Hajduk Split.

Ivan Nevistic (27) was a regular in Zagreb’s goal for most of the season, but from November onwards he had to give preference to Ivan Filipovic (31). Livakovic is now likely to become the new number one in Mario Kovacevic’s team, especially since Nevistic was recently linked to FC Twente by “Sportske Novosti”.
