Justin Lisso was long considered a promising hope for German ski jumping, but he never achieved a breakthrough in the World Cup due to serious injuries. Now he has announced the end of his career at just 26 years old.
The German Ski Association is losing another talented ski jumper at a young age: Justin Lisso, just 26 years old, has ended his career after serious injuries. The Thuringian tore his cruciate ligament for the second time in November.
“It’s not easy for me to say goodbye, but I’m leaving with a smile and with great anticipation for what’s to come,” Lisso wrote on Instagram.
Incredible Bad luck with injuries for Lisso
The athlete from WSV Schmiedefeld had already seriously injured his knee in a training fall in June 2023 and only celebrated his comeback at the end of September 2025. Two months later it hit him again.
Before his first cruciate ligament tear, Lisso was on the verge of breaking through to the top of the world. In January 2022, he finished eleventh at the home World Cup in Titsee-Neustadt, narrowly missing the top 10. It should remain his best placement in the World Cup. In March 2023 he finished 13th again in Oslo and shortly afterwards in 15th place in Lahti.
