A video of the protest shows people angrily waving signs with texts such as “Prince William, leave our country!” The visit is seen by residents as ‘colonialism’, according to signs. In addition, the villagers would be outraged that William and Catherine’s helicopter would land on the local football field without permission, reports Daily Mail

The protest stems from an old feud over tracts of land lost in the colonial era. The village is in conflict with, among others, Flora & Fauna International, a charity that protects ecosystems and which Prince William is a patron of. Residents are not allowed to use a large piece of land, because this would be “private land”.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit several Caribbean countries in about a week to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee. After Belize, the couple visits Jamaica and the Bahamas.
