After massive contributions from residents, the ‘gem of Westzaan’ is finally watertight

A major makeover for the Reghthuys in Westzaan. The monumental building has quite a few flaws, but the biggest problem was the leaking roof. In recent months, residents have been called upon to pay for the repairs. With success, because the roof has now been repaired.

During King’s Day, anyone who wanted to could buy a slate roof tile. Messages were written on the back of the slate, which may still be read during a subsequent renovation. There was raised more than 10,000 euros with the action.

Justin van ‘t Veer is a board member of the foundation behind the Reghthuys and he notices that the building is in need of renovation: “In recent years we have been busy gluing and sticking, but at a certain point you have to spend money. we didn’t have one, so we started actions. Fortunately, that paid off and now we’re finally working on replacing the slates and gutters.”

In a later phase, the renovation of the walls, the foundation and the electrical installation will be done. Work will continue on the roof in the coming weeks, but the scaffolding at the Reghthuys will be gone before the construction holidays. Van ‘t Veer is very satisfied: “In the coming years we will be wind and watertight, apart from the storms that occasionally pass by.”
