Karlsruher SC celebrates their victory against Preußen Münster

As of: January 17, 2026 3:44 p.m

Karlsruher SC won against Preußen Münster. The hosts were the better team for a long time, but a sending off was the crux of the game.

In the 2-0 away win at the Preußenstadion, Marvin Wanitzek (79th/88th) scored both goals for KSC; shortly before the first goal, Paul Jaeckel was shown the red card after an emergency stop (77th).

In the table, the Baden team climbed to eighth place with 25 points and ended a series of six games without a win. Münster remains at 20 points, slipped to 13th place and is still in danger of relegation.

“Today is another one of those days where we end up with a result that doesn’t reflect the game. It was a really good first half, we created chances but didn’t reward ourselves.”said Münster coach Alexander Ende at the Sportschau microphone: “In the end, the KSC managed it and placed the balls in the finale.”

“That was important today”said KSC coach Christian Eichner. The victory was deserved despite the happy outcome of the game: “Welcome to the second division. Of course we couldn’t have complained about being behind.” With Wanitzek you have one of those players on the team who could make the difference.

Münster was the better team in the first half

The game started badly. The Münster team had the first chance. Zidan Sertdemir had too much space 23 meters in front of the goal and then simply shot. The shot was deflected by Jorrit Hendrix and went narrowly past the left post. Otherwise, a lot of things happened in the midfield and between the penalty areas at the beginning.

Sertdemir suddenly had the lead in the 19th minute. After a long diagonal ball he appeared free in front of goalkeeper Hans Christian Bernat’s box, but passed the ball to the right – there was more in it for the Prussians. And they got going: First Bernat was just able to maneuver a powerful shot from Marcel Benger over the crossbar, then in the resulting corner, Benger, completely free in front of the goal, put the ball just past the left post from five meters.

Bernat saves the KSC from falling behind

After just over half an hour, Bernat had to distinguish himself again. He was just able to direct a deflected shot from Hendrix around the post. Later, Paul Jaeckel also found his match with a long-range shot. Münster was clearly the better team, but there was a lack of converting opportunities. KSC had no dangerous opportunity at all in the first half. The 0-0 score at halftime was therefore flattering for Baden.

Referee Weisbach takes back Münster’s goal

At the beginning of the second half, Karlsruhe were lucky in a completely chaotic scene in their own penalty area. Because they simply couldn’t get the ball out of the back, which somehow always ended up with a Münster player and ultimately into the goal. After VAR advice and viewing the images, referee Eric Weisbach refused to recognize the goal because Sertdemir had probably kicked the ball out of goalkeeper Bernat’s hand.

Batista-Meier misses the chance to counterattack

As a result, the KSC managed better to keep the hosts away from their own goal. The Baden team had more possession phases and then created a few half chances – especially through Louey Ben Farhat.

In the middle of this small KSC pressure phase, SC Preußen almost lost the lead. After a long ball forward, Oliver Batista-Meier ran freely towards the goal, but couldn’t get the ball past Bernat.

Jaeckel sees red, Wanitzek scores

But overall the KSC was now equal and the game was even. And then it took a surprising turn. After a mistake by Prussia goalkeeper Johannes Schenk, Jaeckel had to clear Lilian Egloff and was shown a red card because of the emergency brake. Marvin Wanitzek flicked the free kick from 25 meters over the wall into the corner.

The game was bitter for Münster. The home team were clearly the better team for long stretches, but they couldn’t put the ball in the goal. Then they found themselves outnumbered and behind. And it got even worse. During a counterattack, Rafael Pinto Pedrosa was laid down in the penalty area by Marvin Schulz – and Wanitzek converted the penalty.
