The emergency services were massively pulled out on Sunday afternoon for a confused man who was on the roof edge of an apartment complex in Oss. Among other things, an arrest team of the Special Interventions (DSI) service was used and the fire brigade was also present with an air cushion. After more than two hours, the man managed to escape the massively present police through a clothing trick, who is still looking for him.

Around a quarter past four, the emergency services were informed that there was a confused man on the edge of the roof of a flat on the Lisztgaarde in Oss. He had threatened to throw himself off the eleven floors high building.

Air cushion
After that, the police contacted him to change his mind. The fire brigade from Nijmegen was also called upon to come up with an air cushion, to be able to save the man in the event of a jump. Furthermore, an arrest team was also called upon to keep him and then transfer it to the right healthcare authorities.

In the meantime, the situation attracted the necessary attention in the area because the emergency services were massively present, even though they were at some distance from the flat for safety. The police withdrew over time to give the man the space to get off the roof themselves. It was impossible for the arrest team to get on the roof unseen and keep the man.

Change of clothing
Familiaries of the confused man caught him up and let him put on other clothes on the gallery. He suddenly wore a cap, glasses and gray sweater. In this way he managed to escape the attention of the police and ran away.

That is remarkable, because the police had completely surrounded the apartment building under the leadership of the DSI. It almost never happens that anyone manages to escape this elite unit of the police who generally calculate the toughest criminals and even terrorism suspects.

Coincidentally spotted
Yet the confused man managed to escape with the help of those acquaintances. The group split up and left. A press photographer managed to photograph the confused man by chance and the DSI requested these photos to find him.

That has not yet been possible, but the emergency services hope ‘to restore contact with the man as quickly as possible’ because they are still worried about his state of mind.
