After Groenen, Orange striker Miedema also tests positive for corona

The Dutch women’s team suffered a major setback on Tuesday evening. Captain Vivianne Miedema has tested positive for corona reports the KNVB† Midfielder Jackie Groenen already tested positive on Sunday. Both players are in isolation and will miss the match against Portugal next Wednesday. As soon as they are free of complaints and test negative, they can rejoin the selection, according to the KNVB.

After Groenen tested positive, Miedema had criticized her teammates, who had warmly greeted family and friends after the opening game: “As a team, we have a certain responsibility. It’s not smart to hug Jan and everyone,” said Miedema, who All-time top scorer with 94 goals belongs to the Dutch national team. After Groenen’s positive corona test last Saturday, the Dutch national team tightened up the corona protocols. In this way they keep more distance and they speak digitally with the press. The ladies do not wear mouth caps for the time being.

The selection is not only thinning due to corona. The Orange ladies saw keeper Sari van Veenendaal drop out with a shoulder injury. She will no longer be in action this European Championship. The Dutch national team started the European Football Championship in England on Saturday with a draw against Sweden. On Wednesday evening it will play against Portugal in Leigh. The last group match against Switzerland is scheduled for Sunday.
