After exclusion: Russian Football Association appeals to the Court of Arbitration for Sports CAS

reintegration as a goal

The Russian Football Union has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) for banning all teams from international competitions. The world association FIFA and the European Football Union UEFA had no legal basis for their decision, the association justified the step on Thursday. The aim is the reintegration of all men’s and women’s teams into the tournaments – including qualification for the World Cup in Qatar – as well as compensation, the association announced. He urged a quick decision, in time for the next scheduled games.

FIFA and UEFA had banned Russia from all competitions with immediate effect because of the aggressive war against Ukraine. This applies, among other things, to Spartak Moscow’s Europa League game against Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and the participation of the Russian national team in the playoffs for the World Cup.

The association stressed that the move violated its membership rights in FIFA and UEFA. In addition, the associations had not listened to the Russian side and had not examined any other option. It was not initially announced when the objection would be filed.
