Eleven and a half years, 447 competitive games – and now a farewell: Hugo Lloris no longer plays for Tottenham, he will play for Los Angeles FC in the future.
Hugo Lloris is moving from Tottenham Hotspur to Los Angeles FC in the USA. Both clubs confirmed this on Saturday evening (December 30, 2023). He will receive a one-year contract with his new club with an option for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
The LAFC has published a video on social networks. It shows Lloris diving, overreaching and very often holding balls, sometimes ones that seem unstoppable. The club wrote: ““We are in good hands.”
Farewell after eleven and a half years
The Frenchman Lloris, 37, moved from Olympique Lyon to London in the English Premier League in the summer of 2012. Since then he has played 447 competitive games for the “Spurs”, probably the most important one was a surprise and ended in disappointment: with strong saves, Lloris played a part in Tottenham reaching the Champions League final in 2019. But Liverpool FC won the final.
Lloris has long been considered a good goalkeeper, in his prime he was a pretty good one. This could be observed in the Premier League, but also in France’s national team, for which he played 145 international matches from 2008 to the end of 2022, with which he became world champion once and most recently failed in the final against Argentina at the finals in Qatar.
But he wasn’t a goalkeeper of the caliber of Manuel Neuer. And Hugo Lloris’ best days are a little behind him. At Tottenham he even lost his number one status this season under new coach Ange Postecoglou.

This is also why Lloris is leaving London for the USA six months before the end of his contract. The Major League Soccer season begins on February 24, 2024 with Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami against Real Salt Lake. LAFC became champions last year and only lost in the final this year to Columbus Crew.
