After Djokovic trouble – Australian Open: Border officials are apparently investigating more cases

Melbourne (AP) – After the anger about the entry of tennis star Novak Djokovic, Australian border officials are apparently checking two other arrivals in connection with the Australian Open, who may have entered the country unvaccinated.

This is reported by the Australian news agency AAP. If the border agency becomes aware of a matter, it will “continue the investigation and ensure that Australia’s entry requirements are complied with,” Interior Minister Karen Andrews told Seven Network on Friday (local time).

At the same time, the politician defended the Djokovic case. The Serb failed to provide the correct information to enter Australia. “They are required of anyone entering the country. If this information cannot be provided, then entry requirements into Australia will not be met,” said Andrews.

The very likely unvaccinated Djokovic had traveled to Australia with a highly controversial medical exemption and landed in Melbourne late Wednesday evening (local time). The Australian border protection authority had denied him entry because he had not submitted any suitable evidence to meet the entry requirements.

Djokovic has sued against it; a court in Melbourne wants to make a decision on Monday. The Australian Open begins a week later.
