Alexander Zverev still employs the words of Boris Becker. Now Germany’s best tennis player has once again commented on legend – and is surprised.

Apparently there is still a need to catch up: The twist between Alexander Zverev and Tennis icon Boris Becker is apparently not yet included. “He didn’t write to me, no contact, nothing at all,” said the world number third on Thursday after his round of 16 against the Frenchman Corentin Moutet at the ATP Rasurnier in Stuttgart, where Becker was still guests on Tuesday. “In my view, it is also very surprising.”

The three-time Wimbledon winner Becker had called for changes in his environment at the French Open against Novak Djoković. This is displeased by the 28-year-old, who has been trained by his father Alexander Senior for years and is managed by his brother Mischa. Zverev’s style of play also criticized Becker: “One has the impression that he plays against the top players in the same leader and hopes that the result will be good,” said Becker after Zverev’s defeat in Paris. “That is enough against the players beyond the top ten, but you have to develop further against the upper five.”

When he arrived in Stuttgart, Zverev reacted significantly to Becker’s advice: “If I go well with me, I always do everything right. If it is going badly for me, everyone is suddenly very, very smart. Unfortunately, Boris is part of it,” he said about Becker (57), who has repeatedly been discussed as a possible coach of Zverev in the past.

Although he still had great respect for Becker, Zverev emphasized when he arrived: “He is an absolute legend – not only in sports, but in Germany in general and worldwide.” Therefore he will “always listen to” what Becker has to say. But: “I don’t always have to agree with it.”
