After breast cancer, one in three will still have pain for years: ‘Painkillers make it worse’ | Healthy

The cancer is gone, but the pain remains. That’s the reality for the one in three people who overcome breast cancer. “And that pain can continue for years,” says researcher Eva Roose of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). It is a problem that ex-patients hardly talk about, and the expert wants to change that. She explains what causes the pain and what solutions are available: painkillers do not seem to be the best option.
