The reports of Neil Gaiman’s allegedly abusive behavior have consequences.
Dark Horse Comics has announced that it will no longer continue the comic adaptations of Neil Gaiman’s works – including the “Anansi Boys” series. The reason for this is the increasing number of allegations against the author of sexual abuse.
Allegations against Neil Gaiman first emerged in 2024
Accusations against the Briton were made for the first time in July 2024. At that time, “Tortoise Media” revealed in the form of a podcast series that five women accused Gaiman of sexual abuse. Gaiman, however, vehemently denied the allegations and only stated on his homepage in January 2025 in an entry in his journal entitled “Breaking The Silence” that he had only ever been involved in consensual encounters.
Gaiman wrote on his page: “I have re-read the messages I exchanged with the women surrounding and following the incidents that were later reported as abusive. These messages now seem as they did when I received them – from two people who had enjoyed fully consensual sexual relationships and wanted to see each other again. When I was in these relationships, they seemed positive and happy on both sides.”
But on January 13, 2025, “The New York Magazine” published a report together with their website “Vulture” about new allegations of sexual assault and abuse from a total of eight women against Gaiman – some of whom had already been involved in the publication in July 2024 .
Dark Horse drops Gaiman, others wait
Dark Horse Comics took this as an opportunity to part ways with the writer. Disney is also currently pausing production on the film adaptation of Gaiman’s novel “The Graveyard Book.”
Nevertheless, Gaiman remains in business. Among other things, Amazon is currently producing a TV adaptation of “Anansi Boys”. Whoopi Goldberg is said to be part of the cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is scheduled to launch this year. The second season of Gaiman’s “The Sandman” is also currently in production at Netflix.
