After administrative mess, GGzE has new leadership

Almost six months after a profound administrative crisis, Mental Healthcare Eindhoven (GGzE) is under new leadership. Carla van de Wiel and Ingrid Willems succeed interim director Luc Kenter, who has been at the helm since mid-September.

Carla van de Wiel will start as chairman of the Executive Board on April 1, and Ingrid Willems will start as a member of the Executive Board on May 15. This seems to have returned peace to the institution.

Van de Wiel has extensive management experience in healthcare, including as chairman of the board of Treant Zorggroep, as chairman of the board of the Haga Hospital / member of the board of directors of RHG and for the past six months as an interim director at VVT organization Aafje.

Willems is currently a psychiatry trainer and psychiatrist at GGz Breburg. She is also a board member of the NVvP (Dutch Association for Psychiatry).

Succession
The GGzE ended up in a rudderless situation in August. The cause was a raging conflict between board members Machteld Ploeg and Peter Littooy. They could not agree on the succession of CEO Joep Verbugt. The Supervisory Board then decided to dismiss both directors.

Subsequently, the Enterprise Chamber instructed the Supervisory Board, the Client Council and the Works Council of the GGzE to find a new, temporary director. It was found in Luc Kenter. He was given the assignment to ensure that care and support for children, young people, adults and the elderly with psychological complaints continue unimpeded. This was done partly under the supervision of the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ).

Training psychiatrist
In addition to an administrative conflict, the care institution was already discredited in July after the GGzE’s license for training as a psychiatrist was suspended. The registration committee that is responsible for the license decided to do so after signals about an unsafe learning climate. The complaints came from current and former doctors in training to become specialists.
