After a stolen tip jar, Saskia and colleagues receive heart-warming reactions

The employees of the Blokker in Veldhoven are pleasantly surprised. After the news that the tip jar for the very last outing had been stolen, there were many reactions and commitments. “It’s really heart-warming, someone even wants to give 100 euros,” says a happy Saskia Verharen, sales employee of the bankrupt chain.

To organize a very last staff outing, the employees had placed a tip jar at the cash register. Every year the team from Veldhoven goes on an outing around Christmas, but this year it is cancelled: Blokker is bankrupt and so there is no money left for an outing.

To make matters worse, that tip jar was stolen on Friday. There wasn’t much in it, but still. The reactions to this news are ‘overwhelming’, says almost twenty-year-old Saskia. “A lot of people have indicated that they want to donate,” she says in surprise. She doesn’t know exactly how much money has come in: “I haven’t been to work yet.”

The group app of the Blokker Veldhoven team exploded on Saturday, says Saskia. “I have received a lot of kind responses. Especially because I came out with this and stood up for us as a team.”

Like the rest of the country, the Blokker in Veldhoven will close its doors permanently on December 31. A hundred other branches will close ten days earlier.
