The race in Barcelona is overshadowed by an action by the four -time world champion. Now the Red Bull Pilot has re-positioned-and his words make you take notice.
One day after his sensational freak on the route at the Grand Prix of Spain in Barcelona, Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen said in more detail about the situation: “We had an exciting strategy and a good race in Barcelona-until the Safety Car came out,” wrote the Dutch on Monday morning on Instagram. “Our choice of tires in the final phase and some decisions after the restart only strengthened my frustration, which led to an action that was not correct and should not have happened,” continued Verstappen, making insight.
Verstappen had initially been three in the race on the traditional Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. In phases, he was even able to calculate opportunities for victory. Then came a late safety car phase-and the Verstappen, who traveled with a three-stop strategy, only had the slower hard tires available at the last pit stop. The red bull star could then no longer keep up and fell back. First he was overtaken by Charles Leclerc in Ferrari, then by Russell. Verstappen felt crowded by Leclerc, after a contact with Russell’s car was forced to the distance, but remained in front of him. The four -time world champion raged on team radio and demanded consequences for his rivals.
However, when this failed to fail from the race management, Verstappen’s frustration increased and then escalated when his team stated that he was over. The racing team wanted to predict a punishment for shortening a curve through the race management. During the “pre-healing”, Verstappen then drove to the side into the Mercedes-with consequences: there was a ten-second penalty, Verstappen landed in tenth in the final ranking and lost important World Cup points.
“I always give everything out there for the team, and the emotions can boil over. You wander together, you lose. To Montreal,” he concluded his post and looked ahead of the upcoming Grand Prix in Canada.
