Tennis professional Alexander Zverev lost the final in Vienna against world number two Jannik Sinner after a bitter fight and missed his second ATP title this season.
In a revenge for this year’s Australian Open final, Zverev lost to the Italian 6:3, 3:6, 5:7, but played his best tennis in weeks.
Sinner converted his first match point after around two and a half hours and collected around 500,000 euros in prize money for his 22nd ATP title.
For Zverev it was the fourth final of the year. Only in Munich was he able to win the title in the end. At the first Grand Slam tournament of the season in Melbourne and Stuttgart he also had to admit defeat in the finals.
Zverev starts in Paris as defending champion
There isn’t much time for the Hamburg native to take a breather.
Next week Zverev will compete as defending champion at the last Masters tournament of the year in Paris. The German then travels to Turin, where the best eight players of the year will meet at the ATP Finals.
At the end of November, the world number three wants to lead the German Davis Cup team in Bologna to their first title since 1993.
