On June 23, 1979, Freddy Horion and his companion Roland Feneulle murdered five members of the Steyaert family in Sint-Amandsberg (Ghent). The Ghent court of assizes sentenced him to death in 1980, automatically commuted to life imprisonment, for six counts of murder, after he was also found guilty of the murder of a Polish shopkeeper in 1979.
“Immature level of development”
Over the past twenty years, Horion has submitted several requests for early release, but each time without success. On June 23 last year, the Ghent sentencing court granted him nightlife permits for the first time, solely with a view to possible admission to a specialized center.
