Since 1 September, thirteen suppliers have been fined in Assen who drove into the center area with outdated delivery vans. They thus violated the zero emission zone. The measure started on January 1. First there was a habituation period, with official warnings on the bus from 1 April. That happened to 145 drivers.
It is striking that the warned vans came three -quarters from outside Assen (110) and a quarter from Assen themselves (35). Also at the fines, suppliers from outside have the upper hand, ten of the thirteen.
This is evident from figures that the College of Mayor and Aldermen is now sending the city council. He wanted to know how the introduction of the emission -free zone would turn out and whether adjustment is still required. B and W see no more reason to do that. “We conclude based on the warning letters sent that the number of violations is low.”
Assen was one of the fourteen cities in our country on 1 January, where the zero emission zone was introduced. More than fifteen -year -old company vans are no longer allowed into the center. Municipalities find them too polluting. Despite a petition with protest signatures from Asser Entrepreneurs Last year, the municipality no longer deviated from the taken course.
Nineteen entrepreneurs have received a long -term exemption for their business operations. Furthermore, 41 day exemptions were requested and also awarded. Vans and trucks that have been on license plate this year must be emission -free as soon as they drive into the center. A transitional arrangement applies to existing younger vehicles.
Every two weeks Assen informs entrepreneurs via their own website and via social media that the zero emission zone is there and what exemption options there are. “On average, we receive two requests per month for information about the zero emission zone.”
Since July 2024, Assen has a logistics broker walking around who can advise entrepreneurs free of charge about the possibilities. “So far, three entrepreneurs have used it. B and W believe that the current exemptions and exemptions give entrepreneurs and suppliers sufficient space.”
