Afrika Bambaataa, who hails from the Bronx, New York, was a rapper, DJ and one of the pioneers of hip hop culture.

His first song, Zulu Nation Throwdown, was released by Afrika Bambaataa in 1980.

The song was named after his gang Zulu Nation.

Towards the end of his life, he had trouble with the law after several men accused him of sexual abuse in the 80s and 90s.

One man, Bambaataa, was ordered to pay settlement money.
