At the end of Group D, Egypt defeated Sudan 1-0 (1-0) and thus secured second place behind Nigeria. Mohamed Abdelmonem (35th) scored the goal for the Egyptians, in which the Stuttgarter Omar Marmoush was in the starting XI and was substituted after 66 minutes.
Nigeria also beats Guinea-Bissau
Nigeria celebrated their third win in three games in a 2-0 (0-0) win over Guinea-Bissau. Umar Sadiq (56′) and William Troost-Ekong (79′) scored for Nigeria. While Taiwo Awoniyi was rested by Union Berlin, Jamilu Collins from second division club SC Paderborn started from the start. After their defeats, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau have no chance of progressing to the round of 16 as one of the top four third-placed teams.
