Yaoundé (dpa) – After his corona infection before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, Gabon’s captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has to sit out for the time being.
During examinations of the former Dortmund Bundesliga professional, a “lesion” in the heart was found, the Gabon Football Association said. A more precise diagnosis was not initially available.
The 32-year-old Arsenal striker missed the 1-1 draw against Ghana in the evening. The medical department of the African continental association did not want to take any risks, the Gabon association said. Aubameyang’s teammates Axel Meyé and Mario Lemina had to pass for the same reason. Gabon had won 1-0 against the Comoros at the start.
Any player who was previously infected with Corona at the tournament must complete a medical examination before returning. The Africa Cup of Nations takes place in Cameroon until February 6th.
