The 85-year-old man took his usual walk near the Riekerweg on July 15 last year. According to the Public Prosecution Service, Donatos A. spoke to the older man and scolded him. The elderly man felt threatened and took a wooden club from his bicycle bag. A. then grabbed a screwdriver and attacked the elderly man’s body like a madman. Because there were several bystanders in broad daylight, medical help was called just in time to save his life.
Large number of disorders
A. has confessed to his attack. He told police he thought the 85-year-old man was ‘a pervert or a pedophile’. A psychiatrist has determined that Donatos A. has a large number of disorders. He suffers from PTSD complaints, autism, hallucinations, delusions and voices. A. wants to be treated for this. According to several experts, he is unreasonable.
During an earlier hearing, A. apologized to his victim. “What you often see is that when someone calms down, he realizes what happened,” his lawyer said at the time. The elderly man did not accept that apology. “That dirty pervert did this to me,” said the highly emotional victim last October.
The Public Prosecution Service demands a TBS with conditions, under which A. would have to be admitted to a psychiatric clinic. He would also have to pay compensation to the elderly man. The judge’s ruling will follow later.
