The Adler Mannheim have to do without Thomas Larkin at the start of the new season of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The defender has had hand surgery and won’t be able to return to action until October at the earliest. The club announced this on Thursday. The 2022/23 season starts on September 15th.

British-born Italian Larkin has played for the Eagles since early 2017. In 2019, the 31-year-old Mannheim shot in game five of the final series against Red Bull Munich for the title.

“Thomas’ operation was inevitable and of great importance for his professional and private future,” said sports manager Jan-Axel Alavaara: “The fact that we have to do without him first is of course extremely bitter for us. After the successful operation, we are good things that Thomas will be available to us again in October.”
