Former Bundesliga professional Otto Addo led Ghana to the 2026 World Cup as a coach. On the last matchday of the African qualification, the 50-year-old Hamburg native’s team won 1-0 (0-0) in Accra against the Comoros.

Star player Mohammed Kudus from Tottenham Hotspur scored the goal of the evening (47th). Even a defeat would have been enough because pursuers Madagascar lost 1:4 (0:2) in Mali.

Ghana qualified as the fifth African nation and the 21st overall for the XXL World Cup in the summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The West Africans are taking part in a World Cup finals for the fifth time after 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022. Addo was already on the sidelines in Qatar in 2022, when the preliminary round was the last stop.

The greatest success for the current 75th in the world rankings was reaching the quarter-finals of the 2010 tournament in South Africa. Four years later, Ghana was the only team in Brazil to score a point against eventual world champions Germany (2-2 in the group stage).
