Adam Driver remained silent for a long time about Lena Dunham’s “Famesick” book – in Cannes he spoke for the first time about the allegations from the “Girls” set. His answer is surprising.

He became intimidating and verbally aggressive on the set of “Girls”: After a lot of media attention for Lena Dunham’s book “Famesick,” “Star Wars” star Adam Driver initially held back from reacting to these allegations. Now journalists have followed up on his current film “Paper Tiger” at a press conference.

The shared beginnings of Driver and Dunham

Lena Dunham’s memoir “Famesick,” released April 14, 2026, is about her experiences in the entertainment industry. In it she writes, among other things, about her collaboration with Adam Driver. Dunham achieved her breakthrough with the series “Girls”, for which the 23-year-old wrote the script, directed it and appeared in front of the camera herself. Together with Driver, she played the on-off couple Hannah and Adam. The series, which spanned a total of six seasons, also proved to be Adam Driver’s first step to fame: he achieved lasting international fame through his role as Kylo Ren in “Star Wars”.

A mixed conclusion

After filming ended in 2017, there was initially radio silence between Dunham and Driver. Now Lena Dunham is speaking out again nine years later – and not only has positive things to say: Although she describes Driver as “protective, even loving” in her book, she also reports verbally aggressive behavior. Because of a text hangup on her part, he threw a chair against the wall and shouted at her: “Say something… wake the fuck up… I’m tired of watching you stare.” It was precisely this moment that she felt was less good from Driver.

At the press conference during the International Film Festival in Cannes at the beginning of May, the actor answered questions about the film “Paper Tiger” that was being promoted. But when Adam Driver was confronted with Dunham’s allegations, which he had not previously addressed publicly, he simply responded by saying, “I have no comment on that – I’ll save it all for my book.”
