Ada Colau urges Pere Aragonès to invest in Barcelona schools to avoid extreme heat and cold

The Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colauhas demanded of the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonesthat invest in educational centers of the Catalan capital, “from nursery schools to secondary schools and institutes& rdquor;, and “co-finance” the necessary actions so that they can “climate& rdquor; their facilities and thus avoid excessive heat and cold, depending on the time of year.

Colau, who has reported this in an interview with Betevé, urges the ‘president’ to act in a letter sent to him on Tuesdayin which he stressed that the city council has invested 300 million euros in educational centers since 2015 as an administration that participates in the Consorci de l’Educació de Barcelona together with the Generalitat, and reminds him that the Catalan Administration has more resources than the municipal one.

Colau explains in the letter that during his visits to centers he has detected “a growing concern & rdquor; among teachers about the extreme heat and cold suffered in some facilities, something that was especially noticeable last September, when the course began earlier than other years.

The mayoress also recalls that the council has invested in improving these aspects and that it has initiated an energy transition and thermal comfort plan, but adds that the “major challenge & rdquor; of “the adaptation of centers to the climate emergency & rdquor; it goes “much further & rdquor;, which is why it requires “a leap of scale & rdquor; and many more resources. If necessary, she stresses, the Catalan government could request EU funds for these investments.
