ACV continues unbeaten series: 3-0 win over DOVO

FOOTBALL – ACV recorded an apparently simple victory at home against DOVO from Veenendaal. The Asser formation won 3-0, after a 2-0 score halfway through. Nick Westebring, Gijs Jasper and substitute Boy Spijkerman took care of the goals.

Despite the victory, ACV remains in place 11 in the Derde Divisie and the gap to the danger zone remains seven points, due to the 4-3 victory of VVOG against VVSB. The margin with the direct relegation spots has grown from nine to 12 points. And that with eleven games to play.

The 3-0 victory meant the sixth unbeaten game in a row for the men of trainer Fred de Boer. In the last six games, ACV took twelve points.

The audience in Assen, hidden under the roof of the grandstand, saw a lively duel on the soaking wet artificial grass that was played at a very high tempo. There were opportunities on both sides, but where DOVO once again proved that it is difficult to score, the home club (which is also one of the least scoring clubs in the Third Division this season) did so three times.

Nick Hak had the first chance of the match, but the DOVO attacker hit the post. ACV then had three good chances in a row, but Pascal Huser, Robert Talens and Justin Mulder were unable to pass goalkeeper Jeroen Vrolijk. The fourth chance for the blue-blacks, in the eighteenth minute, was a hit. A corner from Freddy Quispel was easily shot in by Nick Westebring. Seven minutes before half time, the home team doubled the score. Gijs Jasper headed home this time from a free ball from Quispel.

In terms of level, the second half was less than the first, although Fred de Boer was a lot calmer in front of his dugout than in the first forty-five minutes. DOVO tried, but the red shirts failed to create real big opportunities. Only in the final phase was Ben Wormmeester tested a few more times. The goalkeeper thus turned a flaming shot from Hak. In the extra time, substitute Boy Spijkerman determined the final score in Assen at 3-0.
