Activists block roads at Hoogeveen and Zwartemeer in the evenings

Activists have shut down traffic in our province tonight at Hoogeveen and Zwartemeer. Both on the A37 near Hoogeveen and below, on the Meester Cramerweg, cars and tractors blocked the road.

On the A37 near Zwartemeer, to and from the German border, activists blocked both directions from 9 p.m. The perpetrators of this later joined the roadblock at Hoogeveen.

According to an eyewitness, the atmosphere at the roadblock under the A37 near Hoogeveen was calm and activists took shelter under the viaduct because of the rain, while attempts were made to set bales of straw on fire. On the spot, protesters made it clear that the roadblock is part of the protest against the government’s nitrogen policy. Several motorists were also present who prominently wore the Dutch flag on their car.

The protesting group grew in the course of the evening and consisted of about two hundred people around 10:30 pm. The police, who called the atmosphere good around that time, kept an eye out as a precaution to keep order, as did the Mobile Unit (ME). Around 23.30 the police put an end to the protest and traffic on the Meester Cramerweg and the A37 could continue.
