Activist Jan Huzen from Nieuw-Weerdinge was released tonight at the police station on the Balkengracht in Assen. He was arrested earlier in the day. Huzen was suspected of so -called office cheek, because he held border controls with other people on his own.

In recent weeks, groups of self -proclaimed ‘delivered citizens’ have held border controls at Ter Apel and Sellingen several times. With the checks, Huzen tried to move the government to carry out border controls. The authorities call that self -direction, which is forbidden.

Huzen had previously been told by the police that he had to stop checks. He did not do that, on which he was arrested. After spending a few hours at the police station, Huzen was released again.

“I was stunned, I didn’t do any punishable things,” says Huzen after his release. “I don’t get it that well, it’s very strange.” Huzen says he will see no reason to stop checks at the border.

Huzen was convicted last year for defamation and incitement after he asked followers on Facebook to return the children who have been placed out of the home by the allowance affair to their parents. He was also fined 500 euros in 2021 for dangerous driving behavior during a demotour on the A28.
