Actor Chris Hemsworth apparently has a genetic predisposition for Alzheimer’s – and therefore wants to take a break from his job. A genetic test confirmed his “greatest fear,” the 39-year-old told Vanity Fair. But Hemsworth doesn’t want to dramatize that too much: “It’s not like I was handed my resignation”.

The Thor star is currently starring in the Without Limits documentary series on Disney+. In it, with the support of scientists, he wants to find out “how one can live longer and better”. As part of the series, he also had various genetic tests carried out on himself, in which the predisposition was discovered.

“It really made me want to take some time off,” Hemsworth said. He is currently only completing projects that he is contractually obliged to do. “I’m going home and I’ll have a fair bit of time to just slow down. Spending time with the kids and my wife.”

Hemsworth has not received an actual Alzheimer’s diagnosis. During the tests, however, it was found that he had inherited the ApoE4 gene from both parents. The gene is considered a clear risk factor for later Alzheimer’s disease. According to a medic on the show, it makes them eight to 10 times more likely.

In the interview, he also justified the break by saying that he had hardly had time to appreciate his career. “I felt like I’d been sprinting for 10 years, and all of those moments that were dream scenarios just flew by,” Hemsworth said. He was last seen in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022.
