Acquittal for arson, but sentence for swipe with knife in Oostduinkerke
The fire brigade of the Westhoek zone had to go to the Kinderlaan on the border of Nieuwpoort and Oostduinkerke in November last year, for a raging fire. On site, the flames beat out the window of a warehouse. The residents were able to leave the building in time, but the house above it was temporarily uninhabitable.
When it turned out that the fire was lit, the police arrested the 58-year-old woman. After interrogation she was free again, but then she went to get a story from a neighbor across the street and stabbed her with a knife. The neighbor sustained a cut in the chin.
Cleared for arson
The woman was therefore arrested again. Her lawyer now asked for the acquittal for the arson, so successfully. Because the swipe with a knife happened under the influence of alcohol, she asked for a suspension of punishment, but the judge did not respond.
