The Japanese illustrator Hajime Sorayama feels like he is being copied and shares his displeasure via Instagram.

Beyoncé has been accused by Japanese illustrator Hajime Sorayama of copying the robot-like headdress she wore on the Renaissance tour, without explicitly citing it as an inspiration.

Sorayama, known for his detailed, hyper-feminine and erotic robots, has previously worked with artists like The Weeknd – but not with Beyoncé.

Sorayama criticizes on his Instagram account: “Yo Beyoncé, you should have ‘officially’ asked me so I could do a much better job for you. Just like for my husband The Weeknd.” The post contains photos of the headdress in question as well as similar illustrations of him.

Beyoncé’s headpiece could also be inspired by Thierry Mugler’s 1995 collection AW95. Some rumors suggest that the collection appears to have been influenced by both Sorayama’s robots and the anime film Metropolis.

Official statements are currently still pending.
