A bad accident occurs in the Keirin combat sprint. Spectators are injured. The German railway bike championships in Dudenhofen are canceled.

The German championships in rail cycling in Dudenhofen in Rhineland-Palatinate were canceled after a serious accident in the early afternoon of the last day of the competition. According to initial information, all those involved in the accident is out of danger, but there are several seriously injured. Two rescue helicopters, six ambulances and an emergency doctor ensured medical care.

In the Keirin semi-final of the elite, two drivers plunged into a group of spectators at around 60 km/h in the target curve. While the two drivers got off lightly with abrasions and bruises, according to initial information, seven spectators were seriously injured. Two visitors were flown to the neighboring hospitals in the region with rescue helicopters.

“The health of athletes, spectators always proceeds. The abortion was therefore without alternative. The best recovery wishes go to all injuries,” said Oliver Streich, Vice President at German Cycling for Marketing and Communication, in a first reaction.

“I am shocked by the accident. We have experienced a cycling festival here in Dudenhofen for five days. Of course, nobody wanted one end of the event. I wish all the participants involved quickly and full recovery,” said Jens Hartwig, chairman of the organizing RV Dudenhofen 1908.
