AC Milan fail before showdown in the Champions League

The dethroned Italian football champions AC Milan are simply not up to speed before the semi-final second leg in the Champions League against local rivals Inter.

The Rossoneri lost on the 35th matchday of Serie A 0:2 (0:0) at relegation candidates Spezia Calcio. On the other hand, local rivals Inter took an important step towards renewed participation in the Champions League with a 4-2 (1-0) win over Sassuolo Calcio.

Inter and AC are currently facing each other in the semi-finals of the premier class. There, with a 2-0 win, Inter had a good chance of reaching the final against Real Madrid or Manchester City. The second leg will take place next Tuesday (9:00 p.m. / Prime Video) in San Siro.

For Milan, renewed participation in the Champions League is becoming more and more distant due to the defeat against Spezia. The gap to Lazio in fourth place in Serie A is four points.

Przemyslaw Wisniewski (75′) and Salvatore Esposito (85′) scored for the underdog from La Spezia. Under-21 international Malick Thiaw was unable to play for Milan due to a yellow card suspension. Romelu Lukaku (41′, 89′), Ruan Tressoldi (55′) and Lautaro Martinez (58′) scored for Inter before things got tight again in the closing stages.
