A grandfather from Lichtenberg has to go to prison for four years and six months for the serious sexual abuse of a granddaughter.

Hans-Jörg R. (64) made a confession before the Berlin district court. “I committed serious crimes,” he said, “I destroyed so much.”

The granddaughter was six to seven years old at the time of the crime. He had looked after the child while the mother was studying. Originally charged were 61 cases.

Ten cases of serious child sexual abuse and one attempt were convicted. In the last word, the perpetrator expressed “respect for mother and child: you were so tough to face this procedure and did everything right – unlike me.”

He intends to accept the prison sentence and continue to receive therapeutic treatment.
