On the first day of the tournament held in Cameroon, the first matches of Group A were played at the Olembe Stadium in the capital Yaounde.
In the opening match, the host Cameroon was the 40th and 45+3rd of Vincent Aboubakar, who played for Beşiktaş for a while. He defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 with two penalty goals scored in minutes. Gustavo Sangare scored Burkina Faso’s only goal in the 24th minute.
In the other match of the group, Cape Verde Islands, 45+1. beat Ethiopia 1-0 with Julio Tavares shaking the nets in the second minute.
Ethiopia’s Yared Bayeh was shown a direct red card in the 12th minute, leaving his team with 10 players.
