ABC Suspends Whoopi Goldberg After Holocaust Remarks

ABC has suspended Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks from the hosts panel of talk show The View after she faced harsh criticism for her comments on the Holocaust.

ABC News President Kim Godwin announced in a statement on Twitter that the 66-year-old had been suspended from the show for two weeks. Godwin personally asked Goldberg to use the time to reflect and learn about the incident.

With the statement, the American broadcaster ABC was probably also reacting to demands from its own workforce, where the mild treatment of Goldberg had apparently caused displeasure, as insiders report. The Oscar winner’s apology was not sufficient and Goldberg must be fired immediately, according to the employees.

On Monday, Goldberg claimed on talk show The View that the Holocaust was not about “race” and that Nazis and Jews were both white. She later reiterated those claims on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert after tweeting that she was wrong about her claims.

However, internal sources told the New York Post that the show’s co-hosts were upset that ABC did not discipline Goldberg adequately. “They say Whoopi went way too far. Those responsible are not satisfied with their apology and are awaiting a fuller retraction,” an insider told the newspaper.

Many would be upset that Goldberg would get through with her statements, while other TV hosts like Sharon Osbourne and Rosie O’Donnell have been fired for less serious statements.
