Hamburger SV is one of the largest clubs in Germany. The news ticker on t-online contains all the important reports about the “Rothosen”.

Former HSV and Werder professional Aaron Hunt believes in a narrow victory in the northern derby between Bremen and Hamburg HSV. “It will be a game of equals. But if the Hamburg team is complete, I think their style of play will be a bit better,” said Hunt before the explosive duel on Saturday. The offensive player played for both Bremen and Hamburg in the Bundesliga.

For Hunt, the fact that HSV is ahead of Werder in the table and can almost secure relegation with a win on the Weser has to do with two people in particular: defense chief Luka Vušković and coach Merlin Polzin. Hunt was particularly impressed by the first 19-year-old Vušković. “Without Vušković, HSV is a different team. It is significantly weaker,” said the 39-year-old. “He has everything he needs to pursue a world-class career.”

Polzin also impressed Hunt with his work. “I like Polzin’s approach to the games. HSV is having a good, solid season as a promoted team,” said the former midfielder.

The Hamburger SV pulls the ripcord on the women’s team: four days before the end of the season, head coach Liese Brancao and assistant coach Gerhard Waldhart have to leave. The Hanseatic people announced this on Monday. Former HSV professional Rodolfo Cardoso will take over the position on an interim basis. He will be supported on an interim basis by Phil Nabaoui, who most recently worked as assistant coach of the U19s.

The HSV women’s team is in twelfth place in the table four game days before the end of the Bundesliga season and is three points ahead of the relegation zone. Most recently, the Hamburg team remained without a win five times in a row.

HSV board member Eric Huwer explained the decision: “After a thorough analysis of the sporting development and intensive discussions with everyone involved, we have come to the conclusion that a change of coach is necessary at this time.” The aim is to use Cardoso to bring about “a new impulse, fresh energy and the necessary looseness in the final sprint”. The HSV would like to expressly thank Liese Brancao and Gerhard Waldhart for the work they have done. Brancao took over the team as head coach in July 2025.
