Just like on many beaches the New Year’s dive in the Westeinderplassen in Aalsmeer has been cancelled. Head bath attendant at Oosterbad Loekie Brommer thinks this is a wise choice. “But we are sheltered here. We have changing rooms and a covered area.” Participants who wish can even take a hot shower afterwards.
Wrap warm
She herself wouldn’t even think about jumping into the cold water. “I’ll do that again in the summer!” She doesn’t have time for it either. Loekie is keeping a close eye on safety today. “We don’t want hypothermia in the Oosterbad.”
So she orders everyone to wrap up warm immediately after the dive. And then of course the participants can enjoy pea soup and hot chocolate.
