The A7 near Wijdewormer was closed in the direction of Hoorn this evening to ensure the safety of a cow that was standing in the middle of the road. A veterinarian assisted, and the road reopened after an hour.

According to a road inspector, the road was completely closed. It appears that the soaking wet animal fell into a ditch, climbed out of the water and ended up on the highway.

Rijkswaterstaat reported that a veterinarian was on his way to the cow. Traffic heading north from Amsterdam was advised to take extra travel time into account.

The animal was escorted off the road and transported to a farm in a trailer.
