Menen / Wevelgem / KortrijkA serious accident occurred on the A19 between Menen and Kortrijk on Friday afternoon. After a rear-end collision, a Renault Twingo with two occupants spun. Both occupants were injured and taken to hospital, one person with life-threatening injuries, the other seriously injured. The A19 towards Kortrijk is completely blocked for traffic.
Just before 12 o’clock on the A19 between Menen and Kortrijk in the direction of Kortrijk, there was a serious rear-end collision between a light truck and a Renault Twingo with a French number plate. The Twingo then started to spin and after a few antics came to a complete stop in the middle of the motorway. The emergency services received a report of two unconscious persons in the car and rushed to the scene. Both victims were removed from their mangled vehicle as quickly as possible and taken to hospital. One occupant sustained life-threatening injuries, the other person is very seriously injured.
“Car stopped”
According to the passenger of the light truck, the Renault Twingo was stationary in the left lane of the motorway. “We were completely surprised,” says the man. “My father tried to avoid a collision, but that was no longer possible.” In the meantime, the Kortrijk public prosecutor’s office has appointed a traffic expert to find out the exact circumstances of the accident.
Meanwhile, the A19 between Menen and Kortrijk in the direction of Kortrijk is completely blocked. You can’t pass it. Traffic is diverted in Menen.
