Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. And the older you get, the greater the risk of the disease. Nevertheless, the Flemish population screening only focuses on women up to and including 69, who get the chance to undergo a free mammography every two years. “But breast cancer does not stop at 70 years,” says oncologist Christel Fontaine, medical oncologist at UZ Brussel. She argues for more ‘breast consciousness’ at a later age: “Prevention and self -care can save lives.”
