Right-back Yan Couto looks back on an extremely difficult debut season at Borussia Dortmund. The Brazilian has never lived up to the high expectations. The transfer misconduct has consequences for BVB and its squad planning.
Serhou Guirassy undoubtedly grabs the title as the best BVB newcomer to the past summer. In large sport.de-A -season certificate received the center forward the smooth one – as the only borus.
Other newcomers such as Pascal Groß, Maximilian Beier or Waldemar Anton were able to bring their qualities to the square at least in phases. Winter newcomer Daniel Svensson even stated in such a way that he deserved a commitment. But one of the many newcomers dropped significantly: Yan Couto.
Couto experienced a debut season that was not at all according to the taste of the black and yellow. The young Brazilian did not do justice to the large advance laurels. Expectations that had only been awakened by players and clubs.
The BVB laces too high expectations
The 22-year-old at the time, among other things: “I know that Brazilians, when they come here, often write history.
The BVB at the time in the person of sports director Sebastian Kehl: “Yan Couto is an extremely exciting player. He can edit the entire outer lane, pairs extraordinary dynamics with intensity, technical finesse and dribbling level. Yan can be used variable, loves one-to-one-duelle, can beat precisely flank and has a pronounced offensive urge.”
The whole thing was garnished with the financial framework, which also fueled expectations. According to media reports, the Couto package should cost up to 30 million euros. What has to be regarded retrospectively as the mistake of the Borussia: In “not so simple” (o-sound Kehl), discussions with Manchester City had a purchase obligation to be written in the rental agreement that reached after only a few months.
Couto falls off in comparison
At this point, and ultimately also to the current one, Couto had not yet justified a fixed obligation from a sporting point of view.
If you were able to justify weaker appearances with start -up difficulties at the beginning, Couto was more and more criticized in the course of the season. Defensive, the Brazilian was prone to errors and impetuously, his passing game too inaccurate. And he was unable to set an accent, especially in Nuri Sahin’s preferred game with a chain of four.
In numbers: Compared to regular strength Julian Ryseron, he was worse in the core categories of pass quotes (85 to 89 %), won duels (45 to 49 %) and successful ball campaigns (43 to 61 per game). While the Norwegian – who had actually not been fetched, unlike Couto to boost the offensive – delivered six direct goal participations, the Brazilian remained from zero.
A lot of the BVB transfer budget swallowed – but hope is still there
The consequences for BVB are obvious. Although Yan Couto under Nuri Sahin’s successor Niko Kovac here and since solid appearances as a right -wing rail player in the system with a chain of three – for example in the 3: 2 against Gladbach – the right foot is at most an (expensive) reservist in the squad. A reservist who also swallowed a lot of transfer budget.
If the collaboration with a loan with a purchase option in summer had possibly ended, Couto has now been bound to the district club in the long term due to the deal with Mancity. Although the four -time national player of Selecao should no longer be planned, according to “Bild”.
Supposedly, the Dortmund could well imagine a lightning difference, one would be “grateful” through a customer, it said in April. A possible return to Girona was speculated about a possible return to Girona at the beginning of the year.
For the time being, the only hope that the 22-year-old can still unfold his potential.
Other new additions such as Felix Nmecha, just as expensive but unlike Couto did not draw to Europe from South America at the young age, has also had a hard time in their first BVB season in recent years.
It should also not be neglected that the season expired could not have run out worse to get used to it, the Dortmunders had considerable problems early on and off the pitch. Even the German international Pascal Groß, Maximilian Beier and Waldemar Anton only got better at BVB over the course of the season.
