The defenseman has been traded by the Chicago Blackhawks Connor Murphy Traded to the Edmonton Oilers for a second-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft.
The 32-year-old Murphy has scored 4+9 in the 60 matches he has played this season.
As part of the deal, the Blackhawks will retain 50 percent of Murphy’s $4.4 million season salary. The defender’s contract is on hold at the end of the season.
Murphy brings especially understrength skills to the Oilers defense. The defenseman led the Blackhawks in blocking statistics with 87 blocked shots and played the second most underpowered games among the team’s players, averaging 2.57 minutes per game.
Teuvo Teräväinen was Murphy’s teammate on the Blackhawks.
The Oilers are fighting hard for a playoff spot. The club is currently third in the Pacific Division with 66 points.
