SaiPa managed to clear its way as the last team to the semi-finals of the SM league, when it defeated Ässät in Lappeenranta on Monday with a score of 4–2.
SaiPa won the series 4–3.
SaiPa advanced quickly to a three-goal runaway in the evening’s semi-finals.
– It was too much, Aces attacker Roope Talaja admitted in an interview with MTV Katsomo.
– It’s hard to say where exactly the difference came from, but the better one deserved his place in the sequel. We had a place to break the streak, but SaiPa was stronger. That’s how sports are sometimes, Talaja continued.
Talaja, 37, referred to how Ässät already led the series with match wins 3–2.
MTV Katsomo narrator Mika Saukkonen asked Talaja immediately after the end of the series, when Saukkonen referred to the “village rumours”, according to which Talaja’s career could end on the night of Lappeenranta.
– I haven’t told anyone that I will continue or not, Talaja coolly dismissed the rumors and claims.
– Let’s take little Huili here, then we’ll see. I haven’t made any decisions yet, Talaja stated.
Talaja has hit 615 league regular season matches in his career (powers 141+11=252). In addition to Ässi, he has represented Sport, Blues and HIFK in the league.
Talaja also had time to play in the KHL team of the Jokers.
